That's not it at all, but I can at least see where you're coming from now.Actual explanation:"Oh sure, I acknowledge that we have the ability to walk," - we can physically take steps, a metaphor for the small step in the appearance of a new species (so-called 'micro-evolution')"it's just that I don't believe anyone can walk from one end of the country to the other," - a hyperbolic statement. Of course you could walk across the country, it would just take a long time and MANY steps. A metaphor for how it would take many small steps of micro-evolution in order to reach something we could refer to as 'macro-evolution' wherein we have a totally new genus (is that the word I want?) which can no longer breed with the original animal (actual evolution). This is of course possible, like walking across a continent, it would just a long time and many many individual steps.Personally, I think that was an excellent metaphor. Kudos.!

Folks "looking forward to seeing it explode" don't care how far away it is, as it's not relevant. If you said "folks waiting for it to explode," then you're right on the money.But through imprecise wording you made the same error they were.;) |

Ugh. Horrible, *horrible* article. But an interesting illustration of the way different people are convinced by different things. It provides virtually no information on the technology even for the utter layman, and instead devotes itself almost entirely to establishing the proponent of the tech as a high-status and therefore to-be-agreed-with person - whose ideas must surely be terribly impressive, whatever they may actually be.Utterly depressing to realise just how many people think that way, and are far more satisfied with this approach than the merits of the idea itself.
